Russian President Vladimir Putin has issued his first comments regarding the recent attack on Israel, expressing concern over the escalating situation in the region. The statement, made during a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Al-Sudani, reflects Russia's keen interest in the Middle East.

President Putin emphasized that the situation was "a clear example of the failure of U.S. policy in the Middle East." Putin then claimed that the U.S. has not considered "the fundamental interests of the Palestinian people," and that it is necessary to create an "independent sovereign Palestinian state."

These comments come in the wake of the recent surprise attack launched by the militant group Hamas against Israel, which has further strained an already fragile situation. The international community, including Russia, has called for a cessation of hostilities and a renewed commitment to dialogue.

While Putin ostensibly calls for restraint and de-escalation, his track record in the region paints a different picture. Russia's support for authoritarian regimes and militant groups in the Middle East has often been at odds with efforts to achieve a lasting peace. Putin's endorsement of a two-state solution rings hollow given Russia's past actions, which have repeatedly undermined progress toward a negotiated settlement.
